The Living Dead—The Reflections of Romans 5-7 and 1 Corinthians 15:31 in Matthew 5:3-10

When you glory in your poverty of inner strength and relish in your absolute and utter dependence upon God for everything—even the blinking of your eyes…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When the sadness you feel is so acutely overwhelming that it brings to an end all your efforts to trick yourself into feeling better...

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When your strengths are finally yielded to the one and only end of illuminating God’s glory and majesty…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When you despair of the sin in your life and discover how desperately hungry you are for God to do something in you that you cannot do for yourself…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When all you want to do is wrap your arms around those who’ve hurt you deeply and tell them how much you and your Father love them…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When everything within you wants God to look down upon you and see His unmarred and smiling reflection staring back up at Him…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When being a conduit of loving-kindness to tortured souls and troubled relationships is who you are in the world…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.

When you are forgotten, neglected, or purposely set at naught by a world that hates you, but forgive and keep giving of yourself to the work of reflecting God’s majesty…

THAT is deadness to sin and self.
