The Writer’s Life—Part III

Good morning, everyone...

I have the day off, today, and thought I'd post even before my morning walk.

So...did you write any, yesterday?

Whether you did or not, I promise to not give you a hard time about it…ever.  My desire is only to be an encouragement to you as you pursue your dreams—whatever they might be.

In this post, I would like to, of course, focus on one particular dream, and that is, the dream of writing.  In particular, though, I'd like to toss out to you storytellers out there a little of what's been on my mind, recently.  (BTW, I'm including myself in my audience as everything I offer in this post is written to me, too.)

Okay…some thoughts on storytelling (as offered by a kindergartnerme)...

As you begin “the discipline and practice of writing,” ideas about story lines and various characters are going to start popping into your mind.  When this happens, what I’d like to suggest is this:  don’t discount any of them.  At times, some of you will probably write stories about babies, puppies, and kittens and stuff, and they will be WONDERFUL stories.  I believe, too, that you will write about many other things that may not be as cuddly and all.  How cool would it be if you, in you're own soul, would allow yourself to begin to write a little like A. A. Milne and Tom Clancy (with a kind of Winnie the Pooh meets the CIA kind of thing; in my mind, The Mrs. Pollifax novels are wonderful examples)?  Anyway, these latter stories will, I think, be quite out of the ordinary and, I would like to surmise, incredibly impactful to your readers.  As ideas come to you, you might be surprised at how something that may seem distasteful, uncomfortable, or, even, a little disturbing initially just might evolve into something quite magnificent—as you evolve right along with it!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge Disney fan.  And I just love the Pixar short films they keep putting out.  I came upon one, recently, from a couple years ago that I thought you all might enjoy.  And it has a message that relates to the above.  The link is provided below.  Enjoy…
