Baptism—Part I

I baptize you with water for repentance.  But after me will come One Who is more powerful than I, Whose sandals I am not fit to carry.  He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.—Matthew 3:11

Over the next few days, I want to write some about baptism.

At the outset, I wish to write that I guarantee that what I write will be old-hat for a few, new for many, and controversial for most, if not all, of you.

What I wish to do is look at John’s baptism of repentance, the believer’s baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the ongoing work of God in our lives as experienced through the baptism with the Holy Spirit and the baptism with fire.

Again, these subjects will be controversial, but I would like to speak to all four of these baptisms as I believe them to be different and yet intimately related.

Blessings on you, your evening, and the beginnings of your weekend!
